Model or Not

How to find a legit modeling agency near you

Two people reviewing a sheet of model photos

The right agency finds you work and takes a commission when you’re paid. Here’s how to find real ones: near you or in a bigger market.

Where to look

  • Agency websites: most have an online “become a model” submission form.
  • Open calls: scheduled walk-in days listed on agency sites and social accounts.
  • Mother agencies: smaller local agencies that develop new faces and place them with bigger-market agencies.

How to check an agency is real

Check What good looks like
Fees No sign-up fees; commission only when you work
Board Real, working models with published work
Contract Clear terms, commission %, length, exit clause: you can take it home
Location A real office; staff you can research
Licensing Some states require talent agencies to be licensed: check your state’s rules

How to submit

Send current digitals, height and measurements, age (18+ for adult boards), and location. Keep it simple: no heavy editing.

Red flags

Upfront fees, required photo packages or classes, pressure to sign immediately, vague contracts, or “scouts” who approach you online and ask for money. Read modeling scams.
