Model or Not

How to start modeling with no experience

Agencies sign beginners all the time: they’re looking for potential, not a polished portfolio. Here’s how to start from zero.

What agencies want from new faces

  • Simple, current digitals, not heavily edited photos.
  • Accurate measurements.
  • Reliability and a good attitude: you’ll be sent to castings at short notice.

Your first week

  1. Take digitals at home in daylight (how-to).
  2. Pick your lane: commercial, fitness, beauty, runway….
  3. Shortlist 5-10 reputable agencies and use their online submission forms.
  4. Practice posing in a mirror and on camera (posing guide).

Getting experience safely

  • Test shoots (trade/TFP) with photographers: agree usage in writing, check their past work, meet in public studios, bring a friend.
  • Local brands and boutiques often need models for social media and e-commerce.
  • UGC work lets you build on-camera skills from home.

What not to do

Don’t pay for “modeling school” as a requirement to be signed, expensive portfolio packages, or pageant-style fees tied to an agency. Read modeling scams.

Frequently asked questions
